MEMORIAL DAY

The Memorial Day or Memorial Day is a commemorative date of federal character occurring in the United States of America on the last Monday of May each year, in order to remind the American soldiers who died in combat. It was initially established to commemorate the fallen soldiers of the American Union who participated in the American Civil War, but after the first world war was extended to honor all American soldiers killed in wars in which he participated there.

It starts as a ritual of remembrance and reconciliation after the civil war, but later, in the early twentieth century, began to be seen as an occasion to honor the dead in general. So much so that people visiting the graves of their deceased relatives have served in the army or not. It also has become a day of family reunion, where people perform various recreational activities like shopping or spending a day at the beach, and national mass events such as the Indianapolis 500, that dispute on this date every year since 1911.

It is common for U.S. president give a speech on this date in which recall the work of the fallen soldiers.
